Salvia Plants
Salvia plants come in a variety of different sizes and colors. There are salvia plants that grow as tall as five feet, and there are salvia plants that grow to only a foot or so. The blooms of salvia plants range from white to red, and there are even some with dark black blooms. Most salvia plants have their blooms on tall stems that shoot high above the foliage.

The foliage on salvia plants differ as well. Most salvia have deep green foliage that grows off of woody stems. The salvia discolor has foliage that is green on the topside, and fuzzy gray on the underside. Some salvia plants even have foliage that begins as a bright purple or gold, and will turn a soft green with age.

When choosing salvia plants to add to a garden, it is important to note that not all salvia plants are hardy. In fact, most of the salvia plants available on the market today will not survive frost. There are some exceptions to this rule. Some salvia plants that will be hardy in zones as low as four are the salvia x superba, and the may night.

Salvia plants are a fantastic addition to any garden, and most can even be grown indoors. Salvia plants are commonly used for their leaves, which contain spices that many people use in cooking. Salvia plants are generally easy to grow, and will require little maintenance to thrive.
